How to use Flagyl?

This medicine is usually taken orally. When you order Flagyl, take it at regular intervals, as prescribed by your physician. It should be taken with a glass of water and can be taken with or without food. Stick to the dose prescribed by your doctor. The medicine is used to treat various bacterial infections but the dose depends upon the medical condition. It is used to treat pediatric patients suffering from Amoebic ailments only, when the weight of the child is taken into account, before deciding the dosage.

In Acute intestinal amoebiasis, or for Amoebic liver abscess, adults are usually given tablets of 500mg-750mg 3 times a day for 5-10 days, while children are given a lower dose thrice daily for 10 days. For treating Anaerobic bacterial infections, adults may have to take the medicine for 7-10 days. In Trichomoniasis, which is a sexually transmitted disease, the dosage and duration differs for women and men.

In case there is a very severe anaerobic infection, Generic Flagyl is administered intravenously at the beginning of the therapy, and if the doctor decides, it may be followed by an oral dose every 6 hours [depends on the weight], for 7-10 days. Only in treating infections of bones, joints, lower respiratory tract and endocardium, the therapy may extend beyond the usual 10 days.

Antibiotics generally provide quick relief, but you must take the full course of Flagyl or the infection may return and if that happens the same medicine may not work again.

Take the dosage as prescribed. In case you miss a dose, try to take it as soon as you remember, but if the time for the next dose is approaching, leave the missed dose and go on to the regular one. It is good to follow a regular dosage pattern - antibiotics are more effective if taken regularly, for that ensures a steady supply of the medicine in the blood stream.

The extended-release tablet is usually taken an hour or two before or after eating food. It should not be crushed or chewed, but swallowed whole.
